Terms of Use

Last updated 11 August 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of Hive Manager (the “Service”), available at beekeeping.alumnai.co.uk. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. What Hive Manager is

Hive Manager is a personal record-keeping tool for beekeepers: it lets you log apiaries, hives, inspections, tasks, and honey harvests, and provides general seasonal beekeeping guidance. It's run as a small, personal project, not a commercial product, and is provided free of charge.

2. Your account

You need an account to use most of the Service. You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You agree to provide an accurate email address, since it's used for login and account recovery.

3. Your content

Everything you enter into Hive Manager — apiary and hive details, inspection notes, task lists, harvest records — belongs to you. We don't claim ownership of it, and we don't use it for anything other than showing it back to you and (where you've entered a postcode or location) fetching a weather forecast for your apiary page. See the Privacy Policy for details on how your data is stored and used.

4. Acceptable use

Please don't use the Service to store or transmit anything unlawful, to try to access other users' accounts or data, or to interfere with or disrupt the Service. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that misuse the Service.

5. The seasonal guide and calculators are general information, not advice

The seasonal checklist and brood development calculator in Hive Manager provide general, non-region-specific guidance based on typical Northern Hemisphere beekeeping practice. They're a starting point, not a substitute for advice from a local beekeeping association, mentor, or extension office — always use your own judgement and local knowledge.

6. No warranty

Hive Manager is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee the Service will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, or that data will never be lost — though we don't expect that, and our database provider takes regular backups. As a personal project, there's no formal service-level agreement or guaranteed uptime.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hive Manager and its operator aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't legally be excluded (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence).

8. Third-party services

Hive Manager relies on third-party services to operate: Supabase (database and authentication) and Vercel (hosting). If you add a postcode or location to an apiary, we also use postcodes.io and Open-Meteo to fetch a weather forecast. Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers continuing to operate normally.

9. Changes to the Service or these Terms

We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Service, or update these Terms, at any time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll update the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Termination

You can stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account and data at any time (see the Privacy Policy for how). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
